Katie Hanson

Katie grew up and still resides in Hopkins, Minnesota.  She enjoyed her high school years at Lutheran High in Bloomington, Minnesota and was active in the DECA program. After high school, Katie attended the University of Arizona and the University of St. Cloud University, eventually landing at the of University of Minnesota to pursue and complete her bachelor’s degree. During college Katie was active in the Boys and Girls Program in Minneapolis and also had the opportunity to work at a large local law firm and take part in her families’ small business.

Katie has always had a strong interest in social justice and decided to attend the University of St. Thomas School of Law to pursue her law degree.  At UST, Katie externed for District Judge _____________ and clerked at the Minnesota Board of Professional Responsibility,

After graduating from UST, magna cum laude, Katie decided to continue her public service by clerking with the Hennepin County District Court.  During her tenure with Hennepin County, Katie had the opportunity to work under then Chief Judge Lucy Weiland, Judge _______, and Judge William Koch.  There she gained significant experience in the behind the scenes activities of the Court with judges assigned to both the family law and criminal law blocks.

In 2011, Katie and partner, Amanda Bloomgren opened the law firm of Bloomgren Hanson Legal with a goal of providing practical people focused legal services. Katie’s practice areas include family law, estate planning, criminal defense and general civil litigation.

Katie’s experience in working on the other side of the court room provides a unique advantage to her clients.  Her legal strategy includes a one of a kind background and insight into how and why the court makes its decisions that goes far beyond what can be read in any published legal decision.

Katie is also active in the local community and the legal community.  Katie is involved in the following activities and organizations:

  • Member of the University of St. Thomas School of Law Alumni Committee
  • Member of the Minnesota Bar Association
  • Member of the Hennepin County Bar Association

Katie’s free time is focused on family.  Katie has been blessed with living within two miles of her parents, in-laws, brother, sister and sister in-law.  This allows not only for easy babysitting of her young daughter, Cecelia, but for many impromptu family gatherings.  Katie and her husband Matt also enjoy being active the local church, playing on multiple softball leagues and enjoying many summer weekends up North at the cabin.
